Orangutans and Dragons

DESCRIPTION:
We begin in Jakarta, then fly to Sumatra, where we’ll spend several days deep in the rainforest searching for giant pythons and king cobras, while camping in wild habitat shared with orangutans. This is raw, immersive jungle exploration with real chances for rare encounters.
Next, we head east to Flores, the gateway to Komodo National Park. We’ll spend the rest of the trip island-hopping through this stunning archipelago, with multiple chances to see legendary Komodo dragons in their natural environment—along with tropical birds, wild buffalo, and rich marine life.
This is a unique opportunity to experience Indonesia’s most iconic species—from rainforest giants to island predators—all in one expedition.
ITINERARY:
Day 1: Group meets in Jakarta, Indonesia and board a flight to Medan on the Island of Sumatra (included). From Medan the lodge is roughly 4 hours by car. Lunch along the route. Search for reptiles around the lodge in the evening and explore cave systems in the night. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 2: Breakfast at lodge, full day of hiking in the jungle where we will be surrounded by wild orangutans, macaques, and leaf tail monkeys, lunch and dinner provided. Overnight in tented camp in the jungle.
Day 3: Breakfast in the jungle camp then return to lodge by raft in the river. Guests can relax in rooms or explore the town on our last day in Sumatra. Lunch and Dinner provided at the lodge. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Breakfast at lodge then transport to Medan airport. Return flight to Jakarta. Full day in Jakarta. Guests can relax in hotel or explore the city life. Overnight in hotel.
Day 5: Breakfast at hotel then transport to airport. Group flys to the island of Flores where we will board a large private boat. Lunch on board boat. Visit a small village on the island of Rinca. Wild Komodo Dragons can often be seen near the village. Hiking and herping trails and cave systems on the island. Dinner and overnight on boat.
Day 6: Breakfast on boat. Visit Komodo National Park to see giant Komodo Dragons. Lunch on boat. Visit the "Pink Beach". Guests can relax on the beach or snorkel/dive the beautiful reefs. Night herping for blue pit vipers on islands. Dinner and overnight on boat.
Day 7: Breakfast on boat. Visit Komodo Island explore the village and see giant dragons. Lunch on boat. Snorkel/dive reefs. Dinner in city and overnight in hotel.
Day 8: Breakfast at hotel. transport to airport for return flight to Jakarta ending the expedition.
