Madre de Dios Caiman Expedition

DESCRIPTION:
Explore the Peruvian Amazon on an unforgettable jungle expedition in the Madre de Dios region of Peru. Based at our private jungle lodge deep within the Tambopata Reserve, this adventure focuses heavily on nighttime river surveys for caimans, giving participants the rare opportunity to get hands on with caiman and other reptiles native to the region alongside experienced guides. We’ll fish for piranhas and giant catfish, explore winding jungle rivers, visit the macaw clay lick where hundreds of parrots gather every morning, and enjoy incredible traditional Peruvian Amazon meals prepared fresh each day at the lodge. This expedition is designed for those who want an authentic, immersive wildlife experience in one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.
ITINERARY:
Day 1: Group meets in Puerto Maldonado, Peru. Travel by speedboat to our private lodge deep in the Amazon. You'll be greeted with Lunch and can settle into your cabana and rest or begin to explore the many trails through the jungle around the camp. Nighttime we begin our first caiman survey on the river.
Day 2: After breakfast the group will venture into the floating forest where anacondas can be found basking on floating grass pads on top of a flooded jungle floor. If you're lucky you'll get to see one of the true legends of the Amazon, a monster green anaconda. You can fish the river until nightfall when we will begin our next caiman survey.
Day 3: wake up very early and venture by boat to the macaw clay lick. Here you will see hundred of parrots of different species joining together, it's an incredible sight. At night hike the jungle for reptiles such as the emerald boa, and giant bushmasters - the largest viper in the world!
Day 4: After breakfast the group will pack a lunch and spend the entire day on the river exploring a small creek system where you can see dwarf caimans and freshwater stingrays. Great piraña fishing in these creeks as well!
Day 5: The group will visit another floating forest to search for anacondas and giant black caimans. Final night at the lodge.
Day 6: After breakfast pack your belongings and prepare to head back to the city of Puerto Maldonado ending the expedition.

Flight/transport to Puerto Maldonado, Peru. Alcohol or extra food/snacks you wish to purchase. Any activities outside of the expedition dates.
